Today’s man cave is not your father’s man cave. Whereas dear old dad probably had a used sofa, an ice chest with a couple cans of beer and if he was lucky, an old color TV stuck in the corner of the garage, you have options. Your special place for the guys can not only have a theme, you can now get all the latest accessories and gadgets to create a man cave that will ensure the guys will always want to hang out at your place.
There are three non-negotiable, standard man-cave items, which are necessary for every cave. They are basically updated, cooler versions of what your dad had; a big flat-screen TV, a couch and a bar of some kind. Also, the décor in your man cave should be all your stuff whether it’s memorabilia, your collectibles or all those record albums your mom threatened to throw out.
With this in mind, here’s a list of three great themes you can create in your man cave:
1 – All About Sports
This is the most popular type of man cave since many people don’t have partners who share their enthusiasm for sports, and their fanaticism is not welcomed in the communal living areas. Your man cave is where all your sports memorabilia should be prominently displayed. You can showcase your favorite teams or sports including this NFL themed cave, and build your shrine to your favorite players.
The ultimate in coolness is to have an original seat from your team’s stadium, although, that’s generally only possible if said stadium is now defunct. Regardless, you can come up with a plethora of sports items to put in your cave. See if you can top this Steeler fan: Denny DeLuca has a 252-square-foot man cave dedicated to the Pittsburgh Steelers that includes his favorite toilet seat from the old Three Rivers Stadium. It takes a real fan to have a favorite toilet seat. How creative can you get?
2 – Your Own Cheers
Have you always wanted to own a bar? Well, your man cave is a prime place to open one. You can go simple with a refrigerator filled with brew and some neon signs or go all out and get custom cabinetry that can double both as garage storage and storage for your well-stocked booze. Trick it out with wine racks, a humidor, a pool table and colored lighting. You can even have counters custom built to do double duty as a bar and storage area. Don’t forget the multiple TV screens and satellite cable TV that enables you and the guys to watch multiple games all at once. Pretty soon, you can start collecting a cover charge.
Here’s your chance to be a movie mogul and create an entertainment mecca where you can watch anything you want. In addition to your state of the art home theater with surround sound equipment, you’ll install comfy recliners with drink holders and have an endless supply of snacks in addition to a popcorn machine and a beverage dispenser that dispenses adult beverages. Decorate the walls with your favorite movie posters. (Try hard to display more than just Scarface.) If you want to be magnanimous as opposed to man-animous and share your cave with your family, then make sure the snacks and drinks are healthy and there are parental controls on your streaming devices.
The most important aspect of your man cave is that it’s a reflection of you and that it makes you feel good whenever you retreat there. What are some other themes that you want for your personal oasis?
