She Sheds: How to Design the Perfect Cave for Her

For years we’ve all heard about the Man Cave trend – taking over garages and basements across America.

Isn’t it great that he has a place for him…and his video games…and pool tables…and 70-inch flat screen? Yay. Joy.

But what about you? Aren’t you deserving of a place to go when in search of divine serenity? Don’t you need a place to go and collect your thoughts, research, and maybe shop? Don’t you need some stress-free time for yourself?

According to a study by the American Psychological Association, women rated their life events as more negative and less controllable than men – with the results suggesting that women suffer more stress than men.

As if most women don’t already know that!

But what if you could find a way to escape from it all and alleviate some of that stress.  What if you could take back some of that control and have some “me-time” just for you?

Well, we’ve got just the remedy for you – a She Shed. Yes, we said it – a She Shed.

She Sheds

One of the hottest new trends – the She Shed is quickly becoming the new Man Cave, and we couldn’t be more thrilled.

Often thought of as a converted shed in the back yard – you can also transform your garage into a She Shed with just the right elements to accomplish the same look and style. While he hides out in the basement, you too can escape the daily stressors of life for a brief respite!

Dubbed the anti man cave, these spaces are great for hobbyists who need time to focus on crafting, horticulture, reading, and simply lounging. The great thing is that it can be as frilly or as feminine as you desire with soft LED or natural lighting, warm color palettes, and plenty of texture.

Whether it’s a place for you to work or relax, you can make the space completely your own!

Here are a few helpful tips to help you get the most out of your space:

  • Ensure the space is large enough for you and your hobby and recreational items. Ideal spaces usually include a shed or garage that you can easily convert.
  • Design it for your relaxation and privacy. Get inspiration from Pinterest mood boards and add personal touches to enrich your state of mind.
  • Leave guilt at the door. Oftentimes we feel guilty for taking time away from the kids or housework – not realizing that we do ourselves a disservice when we don’t take the time to disconnect, play, or recharge!
  • Kids are forbidden! We can’t stress this point enough. The kids have probably already taken over most of the house – this area is specifically designed for you to enjoy – unless you want to bring in your sleeping newborn to keep an eye on while you enjoy some quiet time.

And there you have it, your first taste of serenity.
