At some time today, Motor Trend finally reveals their choice for the Best Driver’s Car for 2014 award. In contention for the prestigious title are the 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo S, the 2015 BMW M4, 2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI (with a performance package), the 2015 Subaru WRX STI Launch Edition, the 2014 Chevy Camaro Z28, the 2015 Alfa Romeo 4c, the 2015 Nissan GTR Nismo, 2014 BMW i8, the Jaguar F-Type Coupe, and lastly the 2015 Ford Fiesta ST. We won’t know the official winner until later today, but I’m going to jump ahead and pick the car I’d want in my custom garage.
Motor Trend will make their selection based on the car that comes equipped with the most intriguing performance ride. I will make my decision on something a little more basic – the car that would be the most fun to drive on North American roads.
When I’m on the track, I only care about two things – how fast I’m going and how much fun I’m having. Of course, if I were in an actual race I’d be more concerned with the car’s speed, handling ability and reliability, but lets forget about winning a race for a moment. Lets concentrate on having a good time.
After watching the cars race around the track, it was evident that two cars that stood out from the rest.
First up, the Nissan GTR. The Japanese roadster was the fastest around the track and its grip was marvelous. One can only imagine the g-forces you’d experience as she hits a corner at high speeds and hugs the road like she’s on rails. The GTR is a beautiful car. It’s fun, but one car has it beat.
In my eyes, the clear-cut winner is the Jaguar F-type Coupe. Not only does the car look amazing, but it also happens to run like a beast. It may not have been the fastest around the track – in fact, it took over 1:40 to make its round – but it was the most exciting car of the group. The F-Type is a car you have to constantly stay aware of. Seemingly, you have to fight against over-steering on each turn because you have so much power in the palm of your hands and the roar of the engine coerces you to push the car harder and harder. Like I said, it’s fun.
The F-Type is a worthy winner of the Best Driver’s Car for 2014 award. It’s a car you should be excited to buy, and while it may not come cheap, the new Jaguar F-Type Coupe is a car I would proudly park in my custom garage.
