I have always known Cadillac to be a company that appealed to those who were both looking for luxury and wanting to make a statement. Truth be told, that’s exactly what Cadillac is doing with its newest models at this years Los Angeles Auto Show. Motor Trend Garage and I had the chance to test out a few of the latest models on the streets of LA and the impression Cadillac left was, well, impressive.
Beauty and safety was something that stood out from each and every Cadillac I tested. Inside and out, the details of each model couldn’t have been designed any better. Cadillac’s new Cadillac User Experience (CUE) is a suitable added feature to the Cadillac line making your driving experience easier than ever before. Cadillac also has expanded in its safety and self-awareness while the car is on the road. Most models come stock with blind spot, front, and rear collision awareness; these cars love to keep you safe. Its Magnetic Ride Control – a system scanning the road 1,000 times per second to create the most comfortable driving experience – is also something that Cadillac has come close to perfecting.
Cadillac threw me the keys to four of its brand new models at the LA Auto Show, and this is what you can expect from each one.
I’ve been watching the CTS-V race in the American Le Mans series and I’ve always wanted to drive it. I find its square-shaped rear-end design appealing and while it’s not equipped with the new CUE system (rumored to be included in the 2016 model, which will debut in January), its interior is still very spacious and classy. Equipped with a 6.2L Supercharged V8 behemoth generating 556hp and 551lb-ft of torque, the CTS-V allows you to go 0-60mph in less than 4 seconds. At normal speeds, the car is comfortable and wonderful, but once you step on the gas you’ll experience exhilaration and refuse to let off. Stocked with high performance Brembo Brakes, you’ll be assured you can come to smooth and quick stop anytime. This car is just plain old fun.
Crossovers have become a family favorite and Cadillac’s SRX is a crossover that will fit in perfectly with any family. Equipped with the CUE this crossover is perfect for travel and everyday chores. Roomy as ever, the ride of SRX is comfortable and very practical. The SRX is also visually stunning, and it’ll surely turn heads as you drive downtown while making you the envy of other soccer parents. Its safety features include things like Forward Collision Alert (seats that vibrate when danger is close), Blind Zone Alert, and Lane Departure Warning. The SRX is built to keep you and your family safe. This eloquent 308hp 3.6 L V6 crossover is an impressive machine.
The ATS Coupe is car that Cadillac is investing a lot of time in (especially with its newly announced ATS-V). It is a gorgeous car with more than enough power to get down the road. Stocked with either a 2.0L Turbo charged or a 3.6L V6 engines, this CUE equipped car is an easy, powerful and fun drive. Once inside, I found myself inspired to sit put and just let the road lead the way. The Turbo charged ATS I was driving had a smooth ride and responded well. I played through the different driving settings the ATS offers and enjoyed the drive of each one of them, especially the Sport+ setting, where the suspension and steering stiffen up, which gave me a better feel for the road and the power of the car. I really enjoyed the ATS and I can’t wait to see how the ATS-V runs on the road.
As you walk up to this sedan you are left in awe by its beauty. Looking luxurious and sleek, it’s very stunning from the outside, but wait until you take a seat. With Cadillac’s new CUE dashboard system, one could argue that he interior is even better looking than the exterior. Surrounded by all the new technology you start to feel as if you have teleported into the future, flying a super-advanced spaceship. The dashboard display can be configured any way that suits you best,. however, with the window heads up display you never really have to look down into the dash.
Now, lets get to the good stuff and talk about what’s under that hood and hiding behind all that technology? The XTS Vsport is equipped with Cadillac’s new 3.6L Twin Turbo V6 kicking out 410hp with AWD. It’s a car that can be driven everyday, peacefully and smoothly, but when the time comes; it has more than enough power to leave everyone behind. It was my favorite of the four.
At the end of the day, it’s clear to see that Cadillac has upped the ante, and is a true contender in the luxury and sport world. Stay tuned to the Motor Trend Garage blog for more LA Auto Show care reviews.
